One of the more bizarre an tasteless items ever offered for sale on eBay is the table Ian Curtis used to commit suicide on.
On May 18, 1980, Curtis, the lead singer of Joy Division, took his life in the kitchen of the house he lived in with wife Debbie at 77 Barton St
Debbie sold the house with furniture including the table to a neighbour who then gave the table to her daughter. When she no longer needed the table she offered it back to the Curtis family. Ian’s daughter Natalie eventually sold the table on eBay.
The current owner of the table identified its value after the interest in Ian Curtis following the release of the movie Control. “Clearly this table is a unique item and I have put a reserve on the Table which I think reflects its true worth. If it doesn’t sell I will merely keep it,” the current owns writes.
Bidding for the table at time of publication is at £8,100 ($AUD13,862, $US, $12,935).
Bidding will close at 9:10pm UK time November 13, 2013.
