Jon English is back in the Australian Top 20 albums for the first time since 1980.
‘Six Ribbons – The Ultimate Collection’ has climbed to no 17 on the ARIA chart after re-entering at no 23 last week, based on one day sales after the death of Jon.
Jon’s last graced the Australian Top 20 in March 1983 when his ‘Calm Before The Storm’ album peaked at no 17. Jon’s greatest hits album ‘English History’ (1979) peaked at no 4 in 1979 while the ‘Against The Wind’ soundtrack with Mario Millo, featuring the classic ‘Six Ribbons’, got to no 10.
Jon English had a string from hits starting with ‘Handbags and Gladrags’ in 1973. He registered with 18 songs on the Australian top 100 from 1973-1984.
Jon English died on March 9, 2016 at age 66. A memorial service will be held for industry, friend and fans on April 4 at the Capitol Theatre in Sydney.
