Kylie Minogue has been given her own dose of reality before she appears on the reality show The Voice. Her ‘Kiss Me Once’ album has stiffed on the Australian chart.
Kylie fans have voted her latest album ‘Kiss Me Once’ off the chart in the most realist way … by not buying it.
The high profile ‘Kiss Me Once’ sold just 2261 copies last week in Australia in its second week of release.
Sales of Kylie’s latest album are embarrassing for The Voice reality show mentor. Kylie will have to follow-up the failure of ‘Kiss Me Once’ by offering advice to wannabe singers on The Voice when her own record failed after questionable career decisions.
‘Kiss Me Once’ was a blatant attempt to reignite the US, a market that Kylie has had trouble attracting during her career. Only two of her songs ‘Locomotion’ and ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’ have generated any interest in America.
The new record was recorded after the departure of her longtime manager Terry Blamey who drove her success from day one. ‘Kiss Me Once’ was under Roc Nation management, a company owned by Jay-Z. The Americanisian of Kylie didn’t even work in America. The album debut at 31 this week in the USA.
The first single off ‘Kiss Me Once’ was ‘Into The Blue’. It was Minogue’s first lead single off an album ever to not crack the Australian top 40.
‘Kiss Me Once’ also failed to top the UK chart, beaten by George Michael ‘Symphonica’
The ‘Kiss Me Once’ album debuted on the Australia chart last week with 8166 sales bringing the two week total to 10247.
Gold is awarded for 35,000 sales in Australia. Platinum is 70,000. Kylie will struggle for Gold on this album.
