Peter Murphy of the veteran band Bauhaus has been arrested in Los Angeles for a hit-and-run incident that occurred on Saturday.
On Saturday morning, an eyewitness allegedly saw the singer, who was driving a Subaru Forester, rear-end a Mercedes in Glendale, CA, hitting hard enough to injure the other driver. Murphy then allegedly drove around the other car and got on the Ventura Freeway headed towards the city.
The eyewitness quickly snapped a picture of Murphy’s car before he could drive away and the injured driver was able to take down his license plate. A third witness in a pickup truck then followed Murphy until he got to Los Angeles, pulled in front of the damaged car and blocked him from going any further while alerting the police to his location.
Los Angeles police detained Murphy until Glendale police arrived. Officers told the Glendale News-Press that the singer was “very confused” and disoriented, although he claimed he was jet-lagged. Police also found a small bag in the car that possibly held drugs.
Murphy remains in jail on $500,000 bail which the judge set based on a perceived flight risk.
