Karise Eden’s “My Journey” album holds for a fourth consecutive week at No.1 on the ARIA Albums Chart, as her former competitors debut all below her, giving us four acts from ‘The Voice’ within the Top 10 this week, something which Australian Idol could only do once with two albums from two former acts (winner Guy Sebastian & runner-up Shannon Noll for a single week in April of 2004).
Gavin Ryan reports we see Darren Percival (second place) debut at No.3 with his album “Happy Home”, followed at No.5 with third placed act Rachael Leahcar with “Shooting Star”, and fourth placed contestant Sarah De Bono’s “No Shame” album debuts at No.7. These debuts were also helped by these and other former contestants on ‘The Voice’ performing on TV last Sunday night, so we will see how their albums fare next week to see if they retain their Top 10 status or drop down the charts.
The fourth and highest debut within the Top 10 this week is the debut solo album for Angus Stone entitled “Broken Brights”, his sister and band partner Julia’s recent solo album “By the Horns” debuted and peaked at No.11 (June 2012), but rebounds this week forty-four places to No.49. Lead single and title-track from the album is back in at No.70 this week, and Angus has previously charted alongside his sister, and under the pseudonym Lady of the Sunshine with the album “Smoking Gun” (HP-45, April 2009).
Justin Bieber’s promo tour this past week has helped his current album “Believe” to jump back up the charts eight places to No.4, now it’s fourth week (of five on the charts) within the Top 10, plus his previous album “My Worlds” returns at No.82. Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” album is down a place to No.6, “The Story So Far” for Keith Urban halves itself from last week, down four places to No.8, and longtime Top 10 entrants (26 weeks) One Direction are down three places to No.9 with their “Up All Night” set, whilst Missy Higgins holds at No.10 again this week with her “The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle” album.
NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: There are no new peaking albums this week, but retaining their No.11 peak from last week are fun and their “Some Nights” album, which now has a second No.1 single from it, the title track climbing up to the top this week. And other than the above mentioned Julia Stone jump up, there are only slight upward movements this week, it’s more about the dropping albums…
DOWN DOWN: Chris Brown’s album “Fortune” faded fast in its second week within the Top 100, dropping from its No.2’s debut last week to No.15 this week. Also evacuating the Top 10 are Linkin Park with “Living Things” (8 to 16) and “Wild Ones” for Flo Rida (7 to 17), with the inevitable drop for Hillsong Live and their “Cornerstone” album, falling sixteen spots to No.19. “Days Go By” for The Offspring tumbles thirteen places to No.29, and Usher’s “Looking 4 Myself” album is down twelve places to No.39, whilst with no Seal on the TV, his “Hits” collection tumbles seventeen places to No.48 this week.
The second album for Melbourne band House vs. Hurricane debuts at No.20 this week entitled “Crooked Teeth”. Their first album “Perspectives” made it to No.69 in March of 2010. The thirteenth album (studio & collaborations) for hip hop artist Nas is entitled “Life is Good”, and it enters at No.27, becoming his seventh Top 100 entry here, his second Top 50, and his highest charting album in Australia so far, as his previous best effort was 2007’s “Hip Hop is Dead” which debuted and peaked at No.50.
Icehouse has just released their entire back catalogue re-mastered on CD and available for the first time as downloadable albums. So this week we see the return of two studio albums, “Man of Colours” (HP-1 x 11wks, Sept 1987) at No.30, then “Primitive Man” (HP-3 x 4wks, Sept 1982) at No.63, with their recent compilation “White Heat: 30 Hits” (HP-5, Sept 2011) returning at No.40.
Heavy metal super group Hellyeah return with their third album entitled “Band of Brothers”, debuting at No.32 this week. All three of their albums have reached the Top 50, but this new one is their highest charting here, with previous efforts being “Hellyeah” (HP-49, April 2007) and “Stampede” (HP-42, July 2010). And the final Top 50 entry of the week is the first chart entry here for US country act Zac Brown Band with their third album “Uncaged” debuting at No.38.
Lower 50: Regina Spektor is back up twenty-two places to No.61 with her recent No.9 album “What We Saw from the Cheap Seats”. Van She drops thirty-seven places to No.65 in their second week with their “Idea of Happiness” album. Newton Faulkner debuted at No.32 last week with “Write it on Your Skin”, but it drops down thirty-six places this week to No.68. As Lady GaGa has left the country her albums drop down too, with “Born This Way” falling thirty-eight places to No.74, and “The Fame Monster” falling out of the Top 100 from No.85. Lastly, Adam Lambert’s jump back up last week with “Trespassing” drops back this week, down forty-three places to No.92.
There are no new entries in the lower half of the chart, but returning albums this week include “A Joyful Noise” (HP-35) for The Gossip at No.62; “Boys and Girls” (HP-61) for Alabama Shakes at No.73; “Offspring Volume 3” (HP-34) Soundtrack at No.85, and at No.99 is “Thinking in Textures” for Chet Faker (HP-87).
