Guy Sebastian stays at No.1 for a second week with his sixth chart-topping single “Battle Scars”, picking up a Gold sales certification and it becomes his third consecutive two-week-running No.1 track, as “Like it Like That” (Sept 2009) and “Who’s That Girl” (Dec 2011) both spent two weeks at the top.

Gavin Ryan reports that if “Battle Scars” stays for another week it will tie his first single “Angels Brought Me Here” for his longest run at the top, as that track spent three weeks at No.1 in December of 2003. Guy this week also racks up eleven accumulated weeks at the top of the ARIA Singles Chart, the same amount of weeks that U2 have racked up from their five No.1 songs, and if he stays atop next week, he will tie P!nk’s 12 weeks from 6 No.1’s too.

The top two stay stable this week, as Justice Crew’s former No.1 “Boom Boom” holds at No.2, and it also picks up a double platinum certification. But after the top two that’s where things start to change. The new US and Canadian No.1 single is Taylor Swift’s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” (her first in the US, 2nd in Canada), as here it jumps up from it’s No.13 debut last week to No.3 this week. It also becomes her third Top 3 hit here, her last being “Today Was a Fairytale” (Feb 2010), the first was the No.1 single “Love Story” (peaked March 2009).

The next big jump into the Top 10 is from 16 year old British singer Birdy, who leaps from No.74 last week to No.4 this week with “Skinny Love”. This was helped by a contestant’s performance on X-Factor earlier in the week, which had been a part of their promos for the show for the previous weeks, so the song might fall next week. Birdy also has another song that is climbing, “People Help the People”, which is up seven places to a new peak of No.13, and that has been helped by the Channel 10 promos for Neighbours. All of this singles chart action has translated to album sales for her self-titled debut album, which jumps from No.16 to No.2 this week, the album having gone higher in only Belgium and The Netherlands.

One more No.2 single for Maroon 5, as “One More Night” dips from No.3 to No.5 having peaked at No.2 for two weeks, and becoming their third consecutive No.2 single here (although they have had a No.1 before, but back in 2004). And after one week at a peak of No.5, “Good Times” for Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen is back down to No.6, its fourth week at that position.

The Script debut at No.7 with “Hall of Fame”, featuring Will.i.am as guest vocalist, the song is the first single from their forthcoming early September album “#3”. This new track becomes the bands third Top 10 single and now second highest charting as “BreakEven” went to No.3 in May 2009 and it re-enters at No.78 this week.

The Far East Movement jump up six places to a new peak of No.8 with “Turn up the Love” becoming their second Top 10 single after “Like a G6” made it to No.2 in November 2010. Last weeks return at No.37 for the parent album “Dirty Bass” has not held this week, as the album tumbles down to No.82. Rounding out the Top 10 this week is fun. down five places to No.9 with “Some Nights”, and falling four places to No.10 are Florence + the Machine with “Spectrum (Say My Name)”.

NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: I mentioned above about Birdy’s new peak to No.13 for “People Help the People”, next up on the charts is Chiddy Bang and “Mind Your Manners” which is up nine places to No.17 becoming their second Top 20 hit, as “Opposite of Adults” made it to No.10 in June 2010.

“Run Alone” for 360 jumps up six places to No.24, whilst further down Mumford & Sons move up a couple of places to No.36 with “I Will Wait”. Jason DeRulo jumps into the Top 50 at No.37 with his new single “Pick up the Pieces”, up twenty-six places from last week, whilst Ne-Yo’s “Let Me Love You” also joins the Top 50, but is up five places to No.46. Two further peaks come from Marina & The Diamonds with “Primadonna”, up seven places to No.39, and “Gotcha” by Jessica Mauboy moves up a single place to No.49.

DOWN DOWN: With four singles going into the Top 10, the four fallouts are “Feel the Love” for Rudimental feat John Newman (HP-3×3, 7 weeks in T10), “We’ll Be Coming Back” for Calvin Harris & Example (HP-8, 2 weeks in T10), “Blow Me (One Last Kiss) for P!nk (HP-1×1, 6 weeks in T10) and after one week in the Top 10 “Drunk” for Ed Sheeran falls out to No.16 this week.

“Both of Us” for B.o.B and Taylor Swift falls down nine places to No.20 now that Taylor has a new Top 10 single, and the other Top 20 debut from last week, “Dancing with a Broken Heart” by Delta Goodrem, falls eight places to No.23 this week. There’s a seven place drop to No.31 for Missy Higgins and “Everyone’s Waiting”, whilst T-Pain and Ne-Yo drop nine places to No.40 with “Turn All the Lights On”. The new No.1 in the UK “How We Do (Party) for Rita Ora is down eleven places to No.50, but the biggest drop of the week goes to 3OH!3 and “You’re Going to Love This” which descends from last weeks No.41 to No.83 this week.

X-Factor has been running several ads for the new series, and apart from Birdy’s track, another contestant has been in promos singing “Mercy” (HP-26, Sept 2008) by Duffy, which this week re-enters the Top 100 at No.41

The second new entry to the Top 100 this week is the end of July UK No.1 single “Heatwave” by grime rapper Wiley and featuring Ms D as guest vocalist. The song enters at No.44 and it’s his first ARIA Top 100 chart entry, although he did make it to No.42 in September 2008 on the digital singles chart with “Wearing My Rolex”. “Heatwave” was his thirteenth UK release from his forthcoming eighth album.

Lower 50: Avicii leaps up thirty-nine places to No.59 with his new track “Silhouettes”, whilst Nickelback move up a single place to a new peak of No.65 with “Trying Not to Love You”. Tyga is up ten places to a new peak of No.68 with “Rack City” and up six spots to No.75 are The Presets with “Ghosts”.

Songs returning to the Top 100 this week include the aforementioned The Script, then “Say You Like Me” (HP-29) for We the Kings at No.94, “I Can Make You Love Me” (HP-77) for local act British India at No.95. “Dance Again” (HP-28) for Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull is back in at No.99 and one lower at 100 are Jay-Z and Kanye West with “Ni**as in Paris” (HP-71)

Melbourne duo Gypsy and the Cat debut at No.60 with “Sorry”, the first taste from their forthcoming second album, but it’s also their first ARIA Singles Chart entry, as no tracks from their debut album “Gilgamesh” (HP-14) made it onto the charts here. Another local act also score their first chart entry too, four-piece band The Rubens debut at No.70 with “My Gun”.

The sixth studio album for Muse is due at the start of October entitled “The 2nd Law”, and in July we had the first single “Survival” (HP-72), now the second track from the album debuts at No.82 entitled “Madness”.

Final new entry of the week is the No.93 debut of “She Wolf (Falling to Pieces)” by David Guetta featuring local singer Sia. This is a remixed version of the original song and it will appear on David’s remixed “Nothing but the Beat 2.0” album which is out September 7th.
