PSY fights off three high debuts this week to stay at No.1 for a second week on the ARIA Singles Chart with his now 2x Platinum single “Gangnam Style”, which could remain there for several more weeks as he is due in Australia from October 15th for a promo tour.

Last week I mentioned that “Gangnam Style” was the 998th No.1 single in Australia (1940 to 2012), but after some re-calculations the total has been amended to 994. So from here forward we are still six number ones away from our 1000th here. A full list of the previous chart toppers in Australia has been compiled and you can check out this list at the following link…

Debuting at No.2 is One Direction with “Live While we’re Young”, the first taste from their mid-November due second album entitled “Take Me Home”. Their new track instantly becomes their highest charting single and now their third Top 10 single in Australia after “What Makes You Beautiful” (HP-7, TW-58) and “One Thing” (HP-3, TW-60) which both rise back up the charts this week, plus they also re-enter at No.98 with their fourth Top 50 single “More Than This” (HP-49). The new single has (so far) debuted at No.1 in Ireland and No.3 in The Netherlands.

“Battle Scars” for Guy Sebastian and Lupe Fiasco is down one place to No.3, but scoring the only new peak within the Top 10 is The Script featuring Will.i.am and “Hall of Fame” which climbs a place to No.4, one place lower than their best effort; “Breakeven” (HP-3, TW-80, peaked May 2009).

Birdy’s “Skinny Love” and Flo Rida with “I Cry” both drop two places each to No.6 and No.7 respectively, but down only one place to No.7 is Taylor Swift’s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”. After P!nk’s massive promo tour this past week here, her current single “Try” (HP-8) returns to the Top 10, up two places to No.9, she also performed the song on X-Factor last week. Rita Ora’s “R.I.P.” holds at its No.10 peak for a second week (interestingly her first hit “How We Do (Party)” peaked at No.9 for two weeks).

The second Top 10 entry of the week comes in at No.8, “Diamonds” for Rihanna the first single from her mid-November due seventh album entitled “Seven”. “Diamonds” instantly becomes her 23rd Top 10 entry in Australia, and last week her two charting hits fell out of the Top 100 (Coldplay’s “Princess of China” and her solo hit “We Found Love”) so last week was the first Rihanna free Top 100 in over three years. So after one week off from charting here she returns with her first Top 10 placement since mid June when “Where Have You Been” was at No.10 after having spent five weeks inside the Top 10 peaking at No.6.

Debuting just outside of the Top 10 is Ke$ha with “Die Young” in at No.11 this week, and the first single from her second album “Warrior” which is out the first week of December. This song debuted at No.13 in the USA and No.10 in Canada, and if it climbs into the Top 10 here next week it will be her eighth Top 10 hit here, currently it is her tenth Top 20 in Australia. The first two singles from her debut and re-packaged debut album went to No.1, “Tik Tok” (Nov. 2009) and “We R Who We R” (Nov. 2010).

NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: There are only five new peaks within the whole Top 100 this week, one of those I have already mentioned within the Top 10. “Girl on Fire” for Alicia Keys holds at No.15 for a second week, but the second new peak for the week is at No.16, David Guetta featuring Ne-Yo and Akon with “Play Hard” which is up eight places to No.16, and right behind them and up ten spots are Sam & The Womp with “Bom Bom”. Swedish House Mafia climbs five places to No.25 with “Don’t You Worry Child” and the final new peak of the week comes from the ALF Grand Final performers The Temper Trap whose current single “Trembling Hands” returns to the Top 100 and scores a new peak of No.38. The band also re-enter at No.50 with their former No.14 hit (peaked Feb 2010) “Sweet Disposition”.

DOWN DOWN: After eleven weeks inside the Top 10 and three weeks at No.5, “Good Time” for Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen falls down five places to No.12 this week. Former No.1 “Boom Boom” for Justice Crew also spent eleven weeks inside the Top 10 spending two weeks at the top of the ARIA Singles Chart, and it falls down four places to No.13, but after just one week inside the Top 10 Ne-Yo’s “Let Me Love You” (HP-8) is down six places to No.14.

Calvin Harris and Example’s “We’ll Be Coming Back” (HP-8) drops ten places to No.24 after having spent the previous nine weeks inside the Top 20, and as David Guetta enters the Top 20 with “Play Hard” (24 to 16), his former No.11 single with Sia “She Wolf (Falling to Pieces)” is down seven places to No.19. And after leaping back into the Top 20 last week, Havana Brown’s dance EP “When the Lights Go Out” is back down thirteen places to No.31.

Timomatic and “Incredible” fall thirteen places to No.35, and Justin Bieber’s “As Long as You Love Me” is down eighteen spots to No.41. “Chasing the Sun” for The Wanted falls fourteen places to No.42 and after peaking at No.32 last week Of Monsters and Men are down twelve places this week to No.44 with “Little Talks”. “Run Alone” for 360 falls eleven places to No.46 and Birdy’s “People Help the People” tumbles fourteen spots to No.47.

X-Factor Live 3: P!nk’s “Try” gets helped back into the Top 10 at No.9 and the other live performers were Lady Antebellum with “Need You Now” which returns to the Top 100 at No.34 this week. Songs performed on the show by contestants currently on the charts were “Some Nights” by fun. (17 to 18); group performance of The Veronicas songs which included “Lolita” (holding at #45). Lower down The Collective drop twenty places to No.61 with “Footloose”, fall out of the Top 100 from No.47 with “Domino” and the boy’s debuts at No.78 with their version of “You Got it (The Right Stuff)” by New Kids on the Block (No.1 for 1 week 14-Aug-89).

The other XF contestant with multiple chart entries is Bella Ferraro who is down seven places to No.75 with her version of “What Makes You Beautiful”, and she also debuts at No.84 with her rendition of “Big Yellow Taxi” (Joni Mitchell, HP-6, peaked Oct 1970). Fourtunate did a version of “Dedication to My Ex (Miss That)” by Lloyd feat Andre 3000 (HP-3, peaked late Dec 2011) and it returns the original to No.76 this week, and Angel Tupai’s rendition of the Emeli Sande track “Next to Me” (HP-49, peaked April 2012) has helped the original back in at No.91.

Pibtull comes in at No.23 with his new track “Don’t Stop the Party” the third single from his forthcoming seventh album “Global Warming” (due mid-November), having previously charted from the album with “Back in Time” (HP-4, June 2012, TW-out from #84) and “Get it Started” (HP-31, July 2012) with Shakira.

Taylor Swift lands at No.30 with the title track from her forthcoming new album “Red”, having debuted last week with “Begin Again” (TW-22) and currently charting inside the Top 10 with “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” (HP-3, TW-7). A couple of places lower at No.33 is Labrinth who debuts with “Treatment”, the third Top 50 track to chart here for him after “Last Time” (HP-40, July 2012) and “Earthquake” (HP-4, April 2012).

Nicki Minaj enters at No.36 with “Va Va Voom”, the latest single from her “Pink Friday… Roman Reloaded” (HP-5, TW-out from #87). This is one of four songs she is currently charting with, as she is guest vocalist on the current No.15 single for Alicia Keys, “Girl on Fire”, whilst her former Top 10 hits “Pound the Alarm” (HP-10, TW-63) and “Starships” (HP-2, TW-79) are slowly falling down the charts.

Lower 50: Rizzle Kicks debuted at No.52 four weeks ago, and this week they jump back up fifteen places to No.56 with “Down with the Trumpets”. The Script and “Breakeven” is back up nineteen places to No.80, and other returning tracks to the Top 100 are “Make it Bun Dem” for Skrillex at No.93; “Bless This Mess” by Lisa Mitchell at No.94 and “Moves Like Jagger” for Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera is back in at 100.

The final two new lower entries not already mentioned come from Usher who debuts at No.66 with “Numb”, and local act Grinspoon with “Passerby” at No.92, the bands 22nd Top 100 chart entry, and the first new track from this weeks No.8 debuting album “Black Rabbits”.
