Chris Bailey, bass player for The Angels, lost his battle with cancer at 12:30am this morning.

Chris was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer in later January and started immediate chemotherapy. John Brewster of The Angels told Noise11 today that “he is free of the nightmare”.

He joined The Angels in 1976 and left in 1982 but then re-joined and recorded the band’s recent album ‘Take It To The Streets’. He played on the debut album for The Angels in 1977 and then the iconic ‘Face To Face’. ‘No Exit’, ‘Dark Room’ and ‘Night Attack’ albums with the band.

Chris passed away at 12:30am this morning, April 4, 2013. He is survived by wife Josie and a 3-year old son.

John Brewster has confirmed that the benefit concert for Chris will go ahead as a tribute show. “It will raise funds to help the little bloke’s education,” John said.

The line-up for the benefit is a Who’s Who of Australian rock including the members of Cold Chisel. The show will feature Jimmy Barnes, Ian Moss, Phil Small and Don Walker, all billed individually.

Diesel will join Jimmy Barnes. Also on the bill are James Reyne, Gangajang, Swanee with The Brewster Brothers and The Angels with Dave Gleeson. Wilbur Wilde will be the MC.

‘Adelaide Salutes Chris Bailey’ will take place at the Thebarton Theatre in Adelaide in April 17.
