Bon Iver frontman Justin Vernon reveals that he’s been writing with Alicia Keys, leading up to a larger female singer project.
Vernon told USA Today that he’s been writing music with Alicia Keys and is considering a “songbook” style album with female singers.
He said, “I have a big idea to do an American songbook of the greatest women singers. There are so many: Casey (Dienel) from White Hinterland, Bonnie Raitt, Alicia.”
This, he considered, could be “a one-off charity album to have an excuse to work with a bunch of people that I’d choose to work with, all at once.”
Vernon is no stranger to collaboration, having worked on Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, recently recorded with The Flaming Lips, bringing in a whole new band for his Grammy-nominated breakthrough self-titled album and side work with Shouting Matches and Volcano Choir.
He also told the paper that it may takes years to write the follow-up to Bon Iver.
Bon Iver will appear at Golden Plains and do a selection of solo shows in Australia throughout March.
