5 Seconds Of Summer have the number one song in Australia.
With the release of their “She Looks So Perfect” EP, local Sydney group 5 Seconds of Summer leap to the top of the ARIA Singles chart from last weeks No.6, plus the song also lands a ▲ Platinum certification too.
“She Looks so Perfect” becomes the 1016th No.1 single in Australia (1940 to 2014) and the 451st for ARIA (recently adjusted figure), whilst it also becomes the third No.1 single of the year and the first for an Australian act, with the last local chart topping song being “Borrow My Heart” by Taylor Henderson (11-Nov-2013).
The new No.1 also becomes the 56th chart leader for the Capitol Record label (the last being ‘Roar’ by Katy Perry) and only the second ever song to feature the word ‘Perfect’ in its title (Fairground Attraction with “Perfect” in August 1988), whilst it’s also the 9th ‘She’ at the top and the 5th ‘Look’ to make it to No.1 in Australia. 5 Seconds of Summer become the 31st All-Male Australian Group to reach No.1 (the last was Justice Crew in August 2012) and they also become the 100th Australian Act to hit the top (1940 to 2014) with the 155th Australian performed chart-topping song.
After eleven weeks at the top, Pharrell Williams drops back to No.2 with “Happy”, now the longest running No.1 single of this decade, the track picks up a 6th ▲ Platinum certification too, plus it pushes down the former top three, with “Rather Be” by Clean Bandit down to No.3 and “Shot Me Down” for David Guetta and Skylar Grey back to No.4 this week.
US DJ’s The Chainsmokers are up one place to a new peak of No.5 with their dance track “#SELFIE”, and dropping back a couple of places to No.6 is “Brave” for Sara Bareilles. Gabrielle Aplin is up a place to a new peak of No.7 with her rendition of “The Power of Love”, whilst breaking into the Top 10 for the first time is local dance outfit Peking Duk with their track “High”, up five places this week to No.8, whilst jumping into the Top 10 in its second week on the charts is Calvin Harris with “Summer”, up twelve places to become his seventh Top 10 single in Australia, with his last Top 10 appearance coming this week last year when “I Need Your Love” (HP-3) with Ellie Goulding first cracked the ten. And scoring his thirteenth Top 10 hit in Australia is Pitbull with G.R.L., who climb a couple of places to No.10, with Pitbull’s last appearance being “Timber” (HP-4, TW-38) which spent fifteen weeks within the ten from last October.
NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: After sneaking into the Top 40 last week at No.39, Sia this week blasts up twenty-six places to land at No.13 with her new track “Chandelier”, whilst another of last weeks new entries, “Tsunami (Jump)” for DVBBS & Borgeous feat Tinie Tempah is up twelve places to a new peak of No.15, with Jessica Mauboy holding at her peak of No.16 with “Never Be the Same”. Up fifteen spots to No.22 is Zendaya with her debut single “Replay”, with Iggy Azalea back up to No.25 with “Fancy” after falling down last week. Route 94 fell last week too to No.52, but this week their former UK No.1 single “My Love” is back up eighteen spots to a new peak of No.34; with the last two tracks to land new peaks coming at the lower end of the Top 50, John Martin with “Anywhere for You” (TW-46) and Skrillex with “Recess” (TW-47).
DOWN DOWN: Coldplay peaked at No.5 last week with “Magic”, which this week is down six places to No.11 after only two weeks within the Top 10, whilst Kim Cesarion and “Undressed” is down eight spots to No.17 after also peaking at No.5, but spending five weeks within the ten, and after only a week at No.10, “The Man” for Aloe Blacc is also down eight places to No.18 this week. Neon Jungle have cracked No.19 on two occasions, and this week “Braveheart” is down two places to No.21, but it scores a Gold (●) certification, with American Authors down to No.24 with “Best Day of My Life” and landing a ▲ Platinum certification. Jason DeRulo drops six places to No.26 with “Stupid Love”, whilst last weeks highest new entry of “I Got You” for Duke Dumont is back down fifteen spots this week to No.32. Other big drops come from Miley Cyrus and “Adore You” (34 to 51), “God Only Knows” for MKTO (44 to 53) and after debuting at No.45 last week, Little Mix leaves the Top 100 this week with their version of “Word Up!”
Local act Sheppard land the highest new entry of the week at No.28 with the song entitled “Geronimo”, the follow-up to their No.18 self-titled EP which featured the track “Let Me Down Easy”, so this becomes their second ARIA Singles chart entry. And new at No.39 is another local act, rapper Illy with his new track “Tightrope” featuring Scarlett Stevens as guest vocalist. This becomes his sixth ARIA Singles chart entry and second highest charting single, as his prior entry “Youngbloods” (Oct 2013) debuted and peaked at No.38.
The further two Top 50 entries for the week see UK band Rixton enter at No.43 with their debut single “Me and My Broken Heart”, whilst a few places lower at No.45 is MKTO with their fourth chart entry “American Dream”, and with the boys in the country soon for a tour and a Logie appearance, this song should climb. The track is taken from their self-titled former No.1 album which is back up to No.27 this week, whilst they are also charting at No.53 with “God Only Knows”.
Lower 50: DJ Snake is up to a new peak of No.65 with “Turn Down for What”, and up nine places to a new chart height at No.68 are Thundamentals with “Something I Said”, whilst Glass Animals hold at their No.69 entry from last week with “Gooey”. Daft Punk picks up a sixth ▲ Platinum certification for “Get Lucky” (TW-76) this week and further new peaks come from Nancy Sinatra’s “Bang Bang” (#89) and Asgeir with “King and Cross” (#94). Returning tracks are by Jason Mraz with “I Won’t Give Up” (HP-22) at No.71, OneRepublic with “Something I Need” (HP-6) at No.82, Passenger with “Let Her Go” (HP-1) at No.92, “My Ni**a” (HP-69) for YG at No.95, “Sail” for Awolnation at No.99 and Justice Crew with “Everybody” at No.100.
Chris Brown debuts at No.63 with “Loyal (West Coast Version)” (and there is also this version “Loyal (East Coast Version)”) featuring Lil’ Wayne and Too $hort (the E.C. version features Lil’ Wayne and French Montana), whilst another long-running RnB act is new at No.85, Justin Timberlake with “Not a Bad Thing”.
Dustin Tebbutt scores his second chart entry at No.90 with “Bones”, with his previous entry being “The Breach” which reached No.76 last August, and the final new entry is at No.98, the first EP for the new No.1 act in the country, 5 Seconds of Summer entitled “Somewhere New (EP)”, which now becomes their second chart entry.
