5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS) will most likely be a one-week wonder after last week’s no 1, as it looks like either a return to the top spot for Pharrell, or the ever patient Clean Bandit.
Clean Bandit could sneak into the top spot, as its been at No.1 on several digital retailers over the weekend, whilst each Tuesday’s screening on Channel 7 of ‘Resurrection’ seems to be pushing Gabrielle Aplin’s cover of ‘The Power of Love’ (TW-7) ever closer to the top.
Peking Duk landed their first Top 10 single in Australia this past week with “High” jumping to No.8, whilst this week it could jump into the top five, alongside Sia with “Chandelier” (TW-13), becoming her first SOLO Top 10 entry, and fourth overall. Retaining their Top 10 status should be The Chainsmokers, David Guetta and Skylar Grey, 5SOS, Sara Bareilles and possibly Pitbull.
DVBBS and Borgeous with “Tsunami (Jump)” (TW-15) could float up to just outside the Top 10, with this weeks highest new entry for Sheppard with “Geronimo” (TW-28) likely to jump into the Top 15, which would become their highest charting single of the two that have charted so far. Zendaya and “Replay” (TW-22) also looks set to jump up into the Top 20, whilst new entries for that region of the chart could come via Joel Fletcher and Seany B with “Loco” and Passenger with his new track “Whispers”.
Route 94 jumped to No.34 this week with “My Love”, which could leap again this coming weekend into the higher end of the Top 30, whilst JT’s “Not a Bad Thing” (New TW-85) looks set for a Top 40 berth, and around the same region could be Havana Brown with her new track “Whatever We Want”, which samples the Basement Jaxx track “Where’s Your Head at” (HP-16, peak Jan 2002).
Rixton and MKTO debuted at No.43 and No.45 respectively this past week with their new track, which could both climb into the Top 40 whilst after two weeks at No.69 Glass Animals could jump into the Top 50 with “Gooey”. Debuts within the Top 50 could come via The Vamps with their third single “Last Night” and the first single from ‘The Amazing Spiderman 2’ soundtrack by Tonight Alive entitled “The Edge”.
DJ Snake with “Turn Down for What” (TW-65) seems to keep climbing the chart ladder, up to just outside the Top 50 this week, as too the new Illy track “Tightrope” (New TW-39). X-Factor 2013 contestant (and third placed) Jai Waetford could debut in the Top 60 with his new track “Get to Know You”, and the former UK No.1 for Sam Smith “Money on My Mind” alongside The Black Keys with “Fever” could both land within the mid-Top 70 this coming weekend.
Further new entries could come via Lady GaGa with “G.U.Y.” (Top 90), featured on the new albums for both Enrique Iglesias and Kylie Minogue is their duet “Beautiful”, and recent tourists 30 Seconds to Mars with “City of Angels” could both sneak into the Top 100, whilst other potential entries could come from Trey Songz with “Na Na”, The Kooks with “Down” and Mr. Little Jeans with the moody sounding track “Good Mistake”.
Albums
There are no definitive albums leading the race for No.1 this week, at the moment its between Pharrell Williams, Skrillex and possibly even Gabrielle Aplin with her debut set “English Rain” (TW-24), although INXS could also take it out for a sixth week. At the moment the new So Fresh album is leading the pack, but compilations have their own separate chart nowadays.
There are two albums which look like debuting within the Top 10 this weekend, the highest could be from Steel Panther with “All You Can Eat”, the other is a lost album from Johnny Cash entitled “Out Among the Stars”, with albums for Katy Perry, Asgeir, Lorde and the ‘Frozen’ Soundtrack all possibly holding within the Top 10 this week.
There are a bunch of potential debuts within the Top 20, with Mr. Little Jeans and their set “Pocketknife”, the new self-titled album for Shakira”, local dance act The Aston Shuffle with “Photographs” and possibly Christina Perri with her new set “Head or Heart”. The recent 30 Seconds to Mars tour could push their current album “Love, Lust, Faith + Dreams” up into the Top 30, with their previous set “This is War” also potentially returning lower down.
Further new entries could come from Holy Holy with their EP “The Pacific” and the compilation/tribute album “This is Your Life” for Ronnie James Dio both landing within the Top 50. Further down we could see Architecture in Helsinki enter with “Now + 4EVA”, Gareth Emery with “Drive”, Armin van Buuren and “A State of Trance 2014” (all Top 60), KOAN Sound with their EP “Dynasty”, the self-titled EP for local act DMA’s and Mac DeMarco with “Salad Days” (all Top 70), Band of Skulls with “Himalayan”, local act Bam Bam with “The Good Life” EP and also the soundtrack for the recently screened “Glee: The Music – Celebrating 100 Episodes”.
