50 Cent wishes more than anything that pictures of his ill-feted baseball throw could be stripped from the internet.
The hip-hop star was asked to throw the first pitch before a New York Mets game in May 2014, but it didn’t go to plan. The ball skewed a long way from the batter, resulting in a serious red face for the rapper. He has laughed it off since, but admits it’s still embarrassing.
“I never announced that I was a professional ball player. I was like, ‘Yo, can I do it again?'” he laughed to British magazine Q. “I ain’t going to lie, there was so many people looking at me, it’s like, ‘The f**k just happened, man?’ I’m trying to throw the ball hard and get a fast strike in front of everybody, then the sh*t slips out of your hand. They got f**king baseball cards, collectors’ baseball cards, of it. Public domain my ass, that’s my image! That’s one of the pictures I would like taken down [laughs].”
Although he took it in good spirits, a younger 50 might not have been so pleasant. He grew up in a tough neighbourhood and was involved in drug dealing and shot repeatedly. Looking back, he wishes things had been different.
“Oh I wouldn’t have even started hustling then if I could have done that,” he replied, when asked what he’d tell his younger self. “I would have told him to start making music back then. I’d say, ‘Focus on it, you’re going to be great, I’ve seen it.’ I’d be so much better now because I’d have been writing music since I was 12. I would have had a head start.”
The star was also jokingly quizzed about his recent bankruptcy filing. He’s claimed he has nowhere near as much money as people think, prompting one reader to ask if his reported $6,000 electricity bill was for a home with 52 rooms he bought from boxer Mike Tyson.
“I tried to go into every room and feel out the place. How long did it take? Two days; it’s like a small hotel. Did I forget to turn the lights off? When you’ve got a 52-room place, when you didn’t use sh*t they break because you didn’t use it, so you leave the f**king lights on!” he giggled.
