After a full weeks sales, Taylor Swift looks set to take over the top spot this weekend with the first single from her upcoming album “1989”, the song is “Shake it Off”.
The song entered at No.5 on this past weeks ARIA chart after half a weeks worth of sales. This would then become her second No.1 in Australia as her first was “Love Story” way back in late March of 2009.
This would mean that Meghan Trainor will lose the top spot with “All About That Bass”, which might regain the top spot in the next two weeks, as she is due for a promo tour here in early September. The all female top three should continue with G.R.L. potentially slipping back to No.3 with “Ugly Heart” and Klingande should retain their Top 5 status with “Jubel”.
Nicki Minaj could be in line for her eighth Australian Top 10 single, as “Anaconda” (TW-18) looks set to jump into the Top 10, whilst the rest of the ten should see Lilly Wood & The Pricks, AJR, Ella Henderson and Gabrielle Aplin, and possibly Timmy Trumpet with Savage all retaining their status, whilst 5 Seconds of Summer could climb back into the Top 10 with “Amnesia” (it debuted at No.7 back in early July), thanks to its use in the ‘Winners & Losers’ promos on Channel 7.
Looking set for a Top 20 debut is the lead single from the second Eminem Best of collection due late November entitled “Shady XV” (15), the song featuring Sia is entitled “Guts Over Fear” and speaking of Sia, her former No.2 single “Chandelier” (TW-36) should jump back into the Top 20 due to an X-Factor performance this past week.
The new single for X-Factor judge Redfoo entitled “New Thang” could have debuted in the Top 40 last week, whilst this week if it’s allowed to enter it would chart within the high end of the Top 30. And speaking of X-Factor, there are a heap of potential entries this week, not just Brother3. Firstly Dean Ray and his rendition of Australian Crawl’s only No.1 single “Reckless” could come into the Top 40, whilst Sydnee Carter’s rendition of the last No.1 single of the 1970’s; The Buggles song “Video Killed the Radio Star” could come in within the Top 50. Lower down there are tracks by Reigan Derry and “Chandelier” (Top 60), Brothers3 with their version of the Things of Stone & Wood song “Happy Birthday Helen” (Top 70) and Marlisa Punzalan with her rendition of the Olivia Newton-John song “Hopelessly Devoted to You” (Top 80) from the ‘Grease’ soundtrack.
Becky G came in at No.53 with “Shower” this past week, which looks set to jump into the high end of the Top 40, and the new Pitbull track “Fireball” featuring John Ryan could enter within the Top 40 and is from his late September (possibly early October) due album ‘Globalization’, and possibly jumping back up is “Maps” (TW-57) from Maroon 5, whilst also due for a Top 50 entry could be Chris Brown with the track “X”, and further down he could also debut with “Don’t Think They Know” featuring Aaliyah as guest vocalist.
Lower down we could also see entries from Slipknot with “The Devil in I” and Echosmith with “Cool Kids” within the Top 60, and a new Missy Higgins track again this week is her teaming up with Dan Sultan on “The Biggest Disappointment”, a cover of the Slim Dusty track from 1974 (HP-57) and Vance Joy with “Wasted Time” (both Top 70). The new Jimmy Barnes set “30:30 Hindsight” is released this Friday, and after his 60 Minutes interview, X-Factor performance and The Project appearances this past week, he could be set to chart with “I’d Die to Be With You Tonight” this time teamed with Diesel, on his former first Top 10 single from late 1985, and alongside The Living End on “Lay Down Your Guns” (HP-4, peaked August 1990). Another track from the forthcoming fifth Maroon 5 album “V” could debut within the Top 80, “Animals”, and after just missing out last week; SBTRKT and Ezra Koeing could sneak in this week with “New Dorp. New York”.
Albums:
At the moment it looks like the second album for poptress Ariana Grande entitled “My Everything” is going to take out the No.1 spot on this weekends ARIA Albums chart, the set already landing four entries on the singles chart so far; “Bang Bang” (HP-4), “Break Free” (HP-3), “Problem” (HP-2) and “Big Mistake (HP-45)
This means that for the third time, The Hilltop Hoods would have spent only two weeks at the top, their latest set “Walking under Stars” having lasted at No.1 for the past two weeks. Last weeks No.2 album “Guardians of the Galaxy” looks set to retain its high stature, but looking to land his first ever week within the Top 10 is the 1970 debut album for Rodriguez, “Cold Fact” (HP-30, peaked April 2013), which is helped by Sunday nights screening on SBS of the documentary ‘Looking for Sugar Man” (HP-17, peaked April 2013), the soundtrack of which could surpass its former peak, whilst his second set “Coming from Reality” (HP-24, peaked April 1979) could also chart higher than it originally did 35 years ago.
Holding their Top 10 status this week should be Sam Smith, Angus & Julia Stone, Ed Sheeran, The ‘Frozen’ Soundtrack and possibly returning could be the newly re-packaged digital edition of Gabrielle Aplin’s “English Rain” (HP-10, peaked late July 2014). Only released on Monday is the new set for Steffany Gretzinger entitled “The Undoing” which is currently Top 10, but could see a Top 20 entry this weekend, whilst also looking for a Top 10 debut is the first album from New Zealand’s Broods entitled “Evergreen”.
Either landing just inside, or just outside of this week’s Top 10 is the self-titled album for Royal Blood, whilst G-Unit look set to enter with their new EP “The Beauty of Independence” within the Top 30, also landing a possible entry in the same chart region could be local act Kingswood with their debut album “Microscopic Wars”, and Wiz Khalifa with his new set “Blacc Hollywood”.
Further entries could come via Amy Lee with “Aftermath”, Briggs with “Sheplife” (both Top 40), Thousand Foot Krutch with “Oxygen: Inhale”, Opeth with “Pale Communion”, The Griswolds and “Be Impressive” and from local country artist Adam Harvey we could se his new set “Family Life” enter.
