It has been eight years since Agnetha Fältskog, former member of ABBA, has released an album (2004’s cover album My Coloring Book).
Reports from Europe say that she is finally in the studio recording new material and working with Jorgen Elofsson who has written music for the likes of Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson and Celine Dion. Fältskog’s spokesman, Staffan Linde, confirmed her recording but couldn’t say when the album would be out.
Fältskog’s recording career has been spotty since the breakup of ABBA in 1982. Her first solo album, 1983’s Wrap Your Arms Around Me, became a major hit in Europe, but two subsequent albums during the decades each sold less than the previous. She didn’t record again from 1988 until 2004.
Don’t expect this will whet her appetite to perform again with the famed Swedish quartet. Recently Bjorn Ulvaeus said “We are the only group of that status that has never been reunited. I think that is cool. It is a strength for ABBA that you remember those young, ambitious, energetic people during the 70s rather than some feeble old folks who feel compelled to get up and play all the time.”
