Adam Bandt MP, the Federal Member for Melbourne, has turned in a tasty batch of four Australian songs for his Backbenchers playlist.
Bandt, who has represented Melbourne in Parliament since 2007, chose three Melbourne acts and a classic 80s Brisbane band for his four song playlist.
Teeth & Tongue – Turn, Turn, Turn
Jess Cornelius started Teeth & Tongue started in Melbourne in 2008. They have toured the USA, played SXSW and CMJ and released four albums to date.
‘Turn Turn Turn’ is from 2016’s ‘Give Up On Your Health’.
Camp Cope – Jet Fuel Can’t Melt Steel Beams
Camp Cope features singer and guitarist Georgia ‘Maq’ McDonald, the daughter of Redgum’s Hugh McDonald. The band formed in Melbourne in 2015. Camp Cope have released two albums. ‘Jet Fuel Can’t Melt Steel Beams’ is from the first album ‘Camp Cope’ in 2016.
The Go-Betweens – Cattle And Cane
‘Cattle and Cane’ was from the 1983 album ‘Before Hollywood’. The song caught a reaction out of the UK, reaching no 4 on the UK Indie chart. It is now considered a masterpiece of the Grant McLennan/Robert Forster catalogue.
Underground Lovers – Starsigns
Underground Lovers is another Melbourne stalwart band. The band initially formed as GBVG in 1988 and became Underground Lovers in 1990.
‘Starsigns’ goes back 20 years to the 1997 album ‘Ways T’Burn’.
