The music community is speaking out through social media about the passing of Beastie Boys founder Adam Yauch in New York today.

Adam lost his two year battle with cancer May 4 at the age of 47.
Former Eurythmics singer Annie Lennox has written the following piece to acknowledge the passing of Adam Yauch of Beastie Boys.
At Facebook she posted,
“So sad to hear the news that Adam Yauch has passed away… I had no idea that he’d been suffering from cancer for the last three years. It’s cruelly heartbreaking to know that such a vital spark had to undergo that kind of pain and suffering. I met Adam over a decade or so ago. He was a gentle soul, with a passion for Tibet and human rights., that possibly belied the sharper edge of his Beastie Boy persona. He was the one who actually reinvigorated a campaign for global awareness of the Tibetan situation..bringing attention to an entire generation of young Western people, who might otherwise have been oblivious. I wish that he would have lived a longer life….and I grieve for his family and friends that he’s gone so soon…”
