According to Billboard, Adele and Gotye are the highest-selling artists for the first half of 2012.
Billboard have taken stock for the first half of the year, and it’s unsurprising that Adele’s 21 is the highest-selling album and Gotye’s ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ is the highest-selling single of 2012 so far.
Adele sold 3.69 million copies of her album in the US just in the first half of this year, and Gotye sold a whopping 5.5 million copies of his track.
Amazingly, 21 is the only album that has sold more than a million copies in the last six months and it’s the first time only one album has topped the million. Lionel Richie’s Tuskegee is the second highest-selling album at 912,000, followed by One Direction’s Up All Night at 899,000, and Whitney’s Greatest Hits at 818,000. Also, 21 was the highest-selling album for this period last year, as well as for 2011 in total.
Conversely, ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ is the first single to ever top five million sales in the first six months of the year. It is joined by fun’s ‘We Are Young’ at 5.09 million. Carly Rae Jepsen’s ‘Call Me Maybe’ is third at 4.06 million.
