Adele has denied claims that she got married in secret.
Adele sparked rumours she and boyfriend Simon Konecki may have tied the knot under the radar after she was seen wearing what looked like a wedding band on her ring finger.
However, as she kicked off her U.S. tour to a sold out crowd at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota, on Tuesday night, Adele told the audience that getting hitched isn’t something she’s planning to keep a secret.
Denying the claims she had wed, Adele laughed: “I would tell you if I did!”
According to onlookers, Adele was on fine form for the evening’s show, kicking things off with her hit Hello before moving on to songs such as Hometown Glory and Someone Like You.
Acknowledging the gloomy tone of many of her tunes, Adele told the crowd they weren’t in for a fun-filled night, admitting: “I write very sad songs.”
She has also tried her luck covering other people’s songs, such as Bob Dylan’s 1997 tune Make You Feel My Love, and finds it more enjoyable performing such tunes than any of her own work.
“When I sing my own songs, I just get depressed,” she laughed.
Adele also opted to pay tribute to legendary singer Prince, who hailed from Minnesota. The Purple Rain star died in April, and Adele chose to show the video for his 1994 single The Most Beautiful Girl in the World. While the idea of covering one of Prince’s tracks had occurred to her, she then thought: “Fuck it. It’s Prince. You can’t do that.”
Adele concluded her show with a three-song encore – performing All I Ask, When We Were Young and Rolling in the Deep.
