After one week’s glory for Gotye, Adele returns to number one ahead of the new Red Hot Chili Peppers album.
While Adele’s jaw-dropping run at the top of the ARIA Album Chart was broken by Gotye’s Making Mirrors last week, the six-times platinum 21 has returned to the top.
Not even a new Red Hot Chili Peppers album could unseat it, their latest effort I’m With You debuting in the number two slot.
The top end was a bustling affair, rare for this year, with Gotye at number three, David Guetta’s new album Nothing But The Beat coming in at number four and the Icehouse single compilation 30 Hits coming in at number five.
Other newies for the week include Game’s The R.E.D. Album at number twelve, The Herd’s Future Shade at 22, another Motley Crue Greatest Hits package at 30, Celtic Thunder’s It’s Entertainment at 35, and Barbra Streisand’s What Matters Most at 42.
But many stalwarts remain: Bruno Mars is still at number 11 after 46 weeks, Katy Perry’s still in the top 30 a year after Teenage Dream’s release, Gurrumul celebrates the 53rd chart week for his first album (new album Rrakala is at 14 this week), and Angus & Julia Stone’s Down The Way came back into the chart for 72nd time at 46.
Gotye still holds onto the number one single with the Kimbra-featured ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’. Kimbra’s hyped debut album Vows was released last Friday and should certainly have a good showing in next week’s chart.
Maybe we’ll have to wait until October for Coldplay’s Mylo Xyloto to see another artist threaten Adele’s stunning chart year.
