Adele was the biggest selling artist of 2012 and ‘21’ was the biggest selling album in the USA, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
That also made the album the first album to top the USA chart two years running.
Adele ‘21’ sold a further 4.4 million during 2012 pushing it past the 10 million sales mark and qualifying the album for a Diamond certification.
‘21” was also the best selling digital album of the year and the only digital album to sell over 1 million units during 2012 in the USA. ‘21’ is the only album to sell over 1 million digitally two years running as well.
She also topped physical album sales with 3,374,000 total sales including 16,000 vinyl sales. Adele was also the top selling artist of 2012 with 5,167,000 sales.
Adele was the second most played artist on USA radio generating 1,178,000 spins. Katy Perry was the biggest radio act of 2012 with 1,395,000 spins.
Adele’s most played song was ‘Set Fire To The Rain’ with 480,000 spins.
