Terminally ill Wilko Johnson has been honoured for his music successes.
Johnson was honoured over the weekend for his Lifetime Contribution to the blues genre at the 2013 European Blues Awards.
The award comes almost a year after Johnson announced that he had terminal pancreatic cancer and only had months to live. The singer refused traditional treatment methods, preferring to live the time he had left playing music. Since then, he has done a farewell tour and will play again on November 21 at the London Jazz Festival. He is also planning on recording a final album with the help of Roger Daltrey.
In the voted section of the awards, Gary McAvoy and Ted McKenna’s (Rory Gallagher) group Band of Friends won Best Band while former Family member Rob Townsend won Best Musician.
