Air Supply is the latest act to make the ARIA Hall of Fame.
Russell Hitchcock and Graham Russell formed Air Supply in Sydney in 1975 while they were both performing in ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’. They would finish work on ‘Superstar’ at 10:30pm and then perform together in Sydney’s bars, restaurants and coffee shops.
They recorded a demo of songs and submitted it to CBS Records. The songs were ‘Love And Other Bruises’ and ‘If You Knew Me’. CBS signed Air Supply and ‘Love And Other Bruises’ became their first single and Top 10 hit. It reached no. 2 on the Australian chart.
When hearing of the induction Russell Hitchcock said, “It is a great honour for us, and it was something that was totally unexpected. We are certainly excited to come home to Australia and to have fun with everybody and we want to say thank you to all who participated in our ARIA Hall Of Fame induction. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
Air Supply have recorded 18 studio albums and have sold over 40 million records. They have had seven Billboard Top 5 hits in the USA including the number one song ‘The One That I Love’ as well as ‘Lost In Love’ (#3), ‘All Out Of Love’ (#2), ‘Every Woman In The World’ (#5), ‘Here I Am’ (#5), ‘Sweet Dreams (#5), ‘Even The Nights Are Better’ (#5).
Air Supply will be inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in Sydney on December 1, 2013.
