The Voice Australia winner Alfie Arcuri’s ‘Cruel’ has dropped out of the Top 200 less than two weeks after being showcased to 1.2 million television viewers.
‘Cruel’ was a non-starter as soon as it was released, spending its first three days at no 36, 24 then 37 on the iTunes chart before dropping out of the Top 40 completely.
By the time ARIA compiled its figures ‘Cruel’ failed to make the ARIA Top 40 singles chart with a first week position of no 89 after 1506 sales. In fairness to ‘Cruel’, the song was only available for only four days out of the seven-day chart week. However, no other song on the chart had the advantage of exposure to over one million people on TV just hours before release.
This week ‘Cruel’ did have a full seven days of sales and without a TV show to hype the release it is on even ground with other songs in the chart.
By dropping out of the Top 200 iTunes chart and with no real streaming exposure to fudge figures back up the chart ‘Cruel’ will have a shocker of a second week, potentially selling less than 500 copies this week.
So do you have what it takes to be the next Alfie Arcuri?
