70s popstar Alvin Stardust is planning a comeback with his first album in 30 years planned for release in November.
Alvin Stardust was a one-hit wonder with ‘My Coo Ca Choo’ in most parts of the world but in the UK he delivered 11 Top 40 hits. His 1974 UK hit ‘Jealous Mind’ was even bigger than 1973’s ‘My Coo Ca Choo’ in England, reaching no 1.
‘My Coo Ca Choo’ was a no 2 hit in the UK in 1973.
In a statement at his official website, Alvin Stardust has confirmed his new album ‘Alvin’ will be released in November. “I am extremely delighted to announce that my new album is now finished and will be released at the beginning of November by Conehead Records. ”Alvin” is a new and exciting departure for me and I’m immensly proud of the finished product and the amazing work of Richard Scott and Scott Ralph of Daftdog Productions in recording and producing it,” he writes.
‘Alvin’ was produced by Richard Scott and Scott Ralph aka Daftdog who also co-wrote the songs with Alvin. Their credits include writing ‘Morning Sun’, ‘Deceptacon’ and ‘Won’t Do That’ for Robbie Williams along with his recent swing collaboration ‘Soda Pop’ with Michael Bublé.
“The chance came out of the blue. We got together for a one off try at writing something. I was blown away with the result. Rich and Scott are so very clever in both writing and the production. It was a no brainer that I should grab on to these great musos and crack on with more stuff. They have brought out a completely hidden side of me and I love the darker, swampy blues edge that we have found. It’s an exciting time. Who knows where it will lead? But it’s the best time I’ve had in years and it’s all for real,” he says.
Since you last heard of Alvin Stardust he has been busy working in UK stage productions like ‘Godspell’, ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’ and ‘David Copperfield’.
