America played the first Australian show of their 50th Anniversary tour in Sydney on Thursday night after giving New Zealand a three-show send-off over the past week.

The three American members of America, all sons of servicemen, formed in London in 1970. Dan Peek left in 1977 leaving Dewey Bunnell and Gerry Beckley to carry on the legacy to this day. Peek passed away in 2011.

While still England based, America’s first album did okay in the UK but exceptionally well in the USA and Australia where it reached no 1 and no 3 (respectively).

The song ‘Horse With No Name’ reached no 2 in Australia in 1972.

America continued their hit streak in Australia for the next decade through to ‘You Can Do Magic’ in 1982.
