Michael Johns, the Australian singer who became a Top 10 finalist in American Idol in 2008, has died at the age of 35 from a blood clot.
Johns is believed to have had a blood clot in his ankle. The singer went to his doctor on Thursday complaining of a pain in his ankle. He died on Friday in his sleep.
Michael Johns achieved 8th place in the 7th season of American Idol in 2008.
Idol creator Simon Cowell tweeted, “I just heard the very sad news that Michael Johns has passed away. A truly great guy. Rest in peace Michael”.

The Perth born singer appeared in theatre productions in Western Australia as a teenager and at age 18 relocated to the USA on a tennis scholarship.
In 2002 Johns was signed to Madonna’s Maverick Records as a solo artist under his real name Michael Lee. The album ‘The Rising’ was released in 2007 but flopped.
After Idol Johns released the singles ‘Another Christmas’ in 2008 and ‘Heart On My Sleeve’ (2009) and the album ‘Hold Back My Heart’.
Michael Johns leaves behind wife, Stacey Vuduris.
