The Hollywood Reporter is exclusively reporting that Amy Adams is attached to play Janis Joplin in the biopic Get It While You Can.
A number of Joplin films have been in early development for years. Most recently, a version with Nina Arianda was said to be moving forward with Sean Durkin directing. That production was expected to start early next year.
Over two years ago, we first passed along the possibility of Adams being involved in one of the pictures courtesy of Deadline Hollywood (Is This Really Who Hollywood Thinks Should Play Janis Joplin?) but it looked like those plans may have fallen by the wayside until today’s report.
Adams has been nominated three times for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Junebug (2005), Doubt (2008) and The Fighter (2010). Her other films include Julie and Julia, The Master, Enchanted and Charlie Wilson’s War.
Lee Daniels is said to be in talks to direct. His films include Monster’s Ball, Precious and The Paperboy. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Robert Katz and Andrew Sugarman are producing with Ron Terry and Theresa Kounin-Terry writing the screenplay.
