Ann Wilson of Heart is branching out a bit with her own group, the Ann Wilson Thing.
Wilson announced her solo turn in a July 13 Facebook post saying “I already am honored to sing for Heart, and now I get the opportunity to stretch out on my own and see what it can bring. I am blessed to have these magical opportunities to let my soul sing out.”
She has since announced the EP with a photo of the cover (above right). No further details are available other than it should be available next month.
Wilson will tour starting on September 21 during a short break in Heart dates. Among the cities will be New York, Annapolis, MD and Nashville.
The makeup of the shows is not known except for a short story on Heart’s site where it says “this “passion project” will give Ann an opportunity to sing songs different from Heart, in intimate venues where she can be “up close and personal” to the audience. Ann has selected songs she loves from artists and writers she admires, and will bring them to life with her powerful voice and soulful interpretations. The music will run the gamut from blues and soul to rock (of course!!).”
It’s been a good year for Wilson. Back in April, she married for the first time at the age of 64.
