Annie Lennox has recorded a new song ‘Requiem for a Private War’ as the theme song for the movie ‘A Private War’.
“I started to write the song,” she says in an interview posted at Flickering Myth. “Then I was invited to see the almost finished version of the film. I could envisage the song being played towards the end so it was an honour to be asked to be part of this project”.
‘A Private War’ was directed by Matthew Heineman and stars Rosamund Pike as journalist Marie Colvin, the Sunday Times journalist killed during a siege in Syria in 2012.
“I was thinking about the mystery of life and death,” Annie says. “The first line says “why do this cold stars burn bright”. It is almost from the perspective of a spirit that has left the material body”.
At Twitter Lennon posted, “I hadn’t written a song in years, and I didn’t even know if I could.”
