There was something special watching Daryl Braithwaite perform his no 1 hit ‘The Horses’ 25 years after it reached the top of the Australian chart. Then again, the APIA Good Times tour delivers lots of special moments.
They don’t make ‘em like John Paul Young, Kate Ceberano, Daryl Braithwaite and Jon Stevens anymore. Today we have music celebrities. These people are music stars.
Since Jon, Kate, JPY and Daryl first graced the charts, their fans have become parents, some even grandparents. Their collective work from the 70s to now has lasted decades and has now been heard by generations. These people are the juggernauts of the Australian music industry.
The APIA Good Times tour gives those generations of fans a chance to enjoy a snapshot of Australian music history over one night. The show also goes to many regional markets across Australia offering the best this country has to fans were few acts tread.
The combination of these four talents in one room is rarely repeated. Watching Kate Ceberano add the Urlich vocals to ‘The Horses’, John Paul Young honour his produces Vanda and Young with ‘Down Among The Dead Men’, Jon Stevens once again perform ‘Never Tear Us Apart’ and Kate cover Roberta Flack is not something you hear often in one night.
Each of the artists performed a 30-minute set, mainly of hits. There was JPY with his pop perfect set, Kate with her stunning vocal brilliance, Daryl with his legacy of songs and Jon Stevens adding the pure energy to the show.
