APRA To Hold Art Music Awards in Sydney in August

APRA AMCOS will present to the 7th Art Music Awards in Sydney on August 22.

John Davis, Australian Music Centre CEO said, “The Australian Music Centre is proud to be partnering with APRA AMCOS in presenting the 7th annual Art Music Awards. These awards provide an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the many people, institutions, and organisations that champion Australian art music in diverse contexts, both in Australia and internationally.”

The live performance program for the 2017 Art Music Awards will again be curated by renowned pianist Gabriella Smart. A passionate exponent of contemporary art music, Gabriella has given award-winning premieres of Australian compositions. Gabriella will be joined by host Simon Marnie, presenter of ABC Radio Sydney’s Weekend Mornings show.

NATIONAL CATEGORIES FOR THE 2017 ART MUSIC AWARDS

• Work of the Year: Orchestral
• Work of the Year: Instrumental
• Work of the Year: Vocal/Choral
• Work of the Year: Jazz
• Performance of the Year
• Award for Excellence by an Organisation
• Award for Excellence by an Individual
• Award for Excellence in Music Education
• Award for Excellence in a Regional Area
• Award for Excellence in Experimental Music (for works, people or events)
• Award for Excellence in Jazz (for works, people or events)

An additional category, for Distinguished Services to Australian Music, is awarded at the discretion of the APRA Board of Directors. Previous recipients of this honour include Richard Gill OAM, George Dreyfus AM, Helen Gifford OAM and the late composer Peter Sculthorpe.
