Indigenous singer songwriter Archie Roach and entertainer, singer and broadcaster Denis Walter have been honoured in the Queen’s Birthday List for 2015.
For the past 25 years Archie Roach has articulated the need for social justice and indigenous welfare in Australia. His song ‘Took The Children Away’ was a blunt musically description about Aboriginal suffering under a British commonwealth.
Roach has received the AM in the General Division of the Order of Australia.
Denis Walter is one of Australia’s most versatile entertainers excelling in both music and broadcasting. Walter is one of Australia’s highest rating radio broadcasters with this daily show and weekday afternoons on 3AW Melbourne.
Walter began singing professionally 40 years ago and has released 16 albums. However it is his charity work for the Austin Hospital, Melbourne, the Make A Wish Foundation, the Neuroscience Foundation and his annual work for Carols By Candlelight, as well as numerous other projects, that makes Dennis one of the pillars of the community in the state of Victoria.
