Aretha Franklin is a bit under the weather and has been forced to reschedule her show this Friday at The Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas.
Franklin has done limited touring in recent years and hasn’t flown since 1984 after an incident, preferring to travel by bus. The singer only did nine dates in 2014 and has done nine so far this year, but the current west coast tour, which saw her ride from Detroit to L.A. for an August 2 date, followed by an August 6 show in Santa Barbara and another last night (August 10) in Oakland, seems to have taxed her health. Her management is citing exhaustion as the reason for postponing the Friday night date.
Aretha said in a statement “I thank all of my fans, friends and supporters who bought tickets. I hope to see you all soon. I extend my sincerest regrets.”
We had the extreme honor of seeing Ms. Franklin, 73, on July 18 at the Syracuse Jazz Festival and her voice is still just one amazing instrument. She worked the crowd like a fine honed machine, performing all six of her singles from 1967 and including material all the way up to Rolling In the Deep from her album Divas.
No date has been announced yet for the rescheduled show.
