For a seventh week, Pharrell Williams is “Happy” at the top of the ARIA Singles chart, with the track now being re-certified 4x▲ Platinum in sales.

“Happy” is now the equal fourth longest running No.1 for this decade, alongside two other seven-week runs from Adele with “Someone Like You” (2011) and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis with “Thrift Shop” (2012), and it’s the longest run at the top since Katy Perry with “Roar” (9 weeks in total), which also had a broken run at the top too.

A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera hold at No.2 with “Say Something”, whilst the current UK No.1 single “Rather Be” by Clean Bandit feat Jess Glynne leaps up twelve places to land at No.3 this week. Australia is only the third country in the world to give it a Top 10 placing, with the other two countries being Ireland and England where it has gone to No.1 for a single week and four weeks respectively. Joel Fletcher and Savage hold at No.4 with “Swing” whilst Avicii lands his third Top 5 single from his current album “True” (TW-10) as “Addicted to You” is up two spots to a new peak of No.5, with “All of Me” by John Legend dropping back three places to No.6 this week, the track also scoring 4x▲ Platinum in sales.

Cash Cash and Bebe Rexha climb a spot to a new peak of No.7 with “Take Me Home”, and her second ever chart entry in Australia now becomes Sara Bareilles’ second Top 10 hit, as “Brave” jumps up nine places to No.8, her first Top 10 entry being “Love Song” (HP-4, peaked late June 2008) from almost six years ago. Cracking the Top 10 for the first time is future visitor here Kim Cesarion (he is here from Sunday) with “Undressed”, which climbs four places to No.9, making Australia only the third country to place it within the Top 10, the other being Denmark (HP-6) and his home country Sweden (HP-7). Falling back four places to No.10 is “Free” by Rudimental and Emeli Sande (with Nas), the track having been at that position for two weeks at the start of January, and the song is now certified 2x▲ Platinum.

NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: American Authors are up five places to a new peak of No.13 with “Best Day of My Life”, whilst OneRepublic hold at No.14 with the Alesso infused version of “If I Lose Myself”. Eminem started his national tour on Wednesday, so next week he should jump more with his latest single “Headlights” featuring Nate Ruess, which this week is up to a new peak of No.26. Chet Faker lands his second Top 40 entry this week, as his new single “Talk is Cheap” bullets up forty-eight places to land at No.34. Katy Perry and “Unconditionally” is back up ten spots to No.36 with the song recently being used in the ‘Downton Abbey’ Season 4 TV promos on Channel 7. New four piece UK girl-band Neon Jungle leap forty-one places to land at No.39 with their debut single here “Braveheart”.

DOWN DOWN: After a single week within the Top 10, “Jump” by Rihanna falls back seven places to No.12, whilst after ten weeks within the ten and a single week at No.1, “Trumpets” (now 3x▲ Platinum) by Jason DeRulo drops down seven places to No.17, with “Rude” by Magic falling nine places to No.18 having spent twelve weeks within the Top 10, two of those at No.2. Aloe Blacc (as a solo singer) reached No.11 with his first single “I Need a Dollar” (peaked Sept 2011), and now his second solo chart entry “The Man” (newly Gold ● in sales) drops down five places after peaking at No.11 last week. Down seven spots to No.19 is London Grammar with “Strong”, whilst also down seven places is Lorde with her EP “The Love Club” to No.31 this week. “I See Fire” for Ed Sheeran falls eight spots to No.33 and Bliss N’ Eso tumble twelve chart places to No.44 with “My Life”. Landing a Gold (●) sales status is the Demi Lovato version of “Let it Go”, which drops seven places to No.45 this week, whilst Miley’s latest “Adore You” falls twelve spots to No.49. Falling out of the Top 50 are “Young & Beautiful” for Lana Del Rey (41 to 55), “Get Lucky” for Daft Punk (48 to 64) and “Warrior” by Havana Brown (47 to 68).

INXS Mini-Series: In October of 1988, INXS’ “Never Tear us Apart” climbed to No.14 before slowly falling back down, but this week after being used throughout the mini-series ‘INXS: Never Tear us Apart’, the song is up five places to a new peak of No.11. “Need You Tonight” is up five places to No.28, followed in the lower fifty with “By My Side”, which is up fourteen places to No.53. “New Sensation” is up two spots to No.54 and their only No.1 here “Original Sin” climbs four spots to No.57. 1981’s “Don’t Change” leaps thirty-three places to No.59, with “Beautiful Girl” up ten spots to No.67. Making a new entry at No.81 is the fifth single from the “Kick” (TW-2) album “Mystify”, which was not released here in Australia, but did make it to No.5 in Canada, No.14 in the UK and Top 50 in Germany, and making a re-entry at No.95 is the former No.2 single (for two weeks) “What You Need” (peaked Sept 1985).

Lily Allen scores the highest new entry of the week, as she debuts at No.15 with “Air Balloon”, the second single to be lifted from her forthcoming third album “Sheezus”. This becomes Lily’s thirteenth chart entry (overall) and her ninth as a solo singer, with her recent No.14 single “Hard out Here” down at No.48 this week.

Local DJ Will Sparks debuts at No.22 with his second chart entry “Catch”, another techno-dance number, as his first single “Bring it Back” (alongside Joel Fletcher) peaked at No.33 for two weeks in October, so this high entry instantly becomes his highest charting song. Another local dance act, Peking Duk (no ‘c’) land their second chart entry and first Top 50 placing, as the song “High” debuts at No.40 this week, with their previous chart entry being “Feels Like” (HP-81, Sept 2013).

Lower 50: Most of the lower fifty movements I have detailed in the INXS section above, with the first notable non-INXS climb being Kylie Minogue with “Into the Blue” (HP-46), which is back up twenty-two places to No.74 helped possibly by the video clip being released. The Arctic Monkeys won a few British Music Awards this past week, and their single “Do I Wanna Know” is back up ten places to No.88, with further re-entries coming from “Bridges” (HP-57) by Broods back in at No.98 and current tourist Eminem returning at No.99 with “Lose Yourself” (HP-1×13). Notable new certifications in the lower fifty come via Lana Del Rey with “Summertime Sadness” (4x▲ Platinum, TW-83)) and the original “Swing” by Savage up a couple of places to No.93 and newly certified ▲ Platinum in sales.

Landing her first chart entry is former Disney Channel star Zendaya (Coleman) from the TV show ‘Shake it Up’. Entering at No.66 is her song “Replay” which is taken from her self-titled debut album, the song having reached the US Top 40 and No.18 in New Zealand.

Brisbane band Ball Park Music are set to release their third album ‘Puddinghead’ at the start of April, and the first single from that album becomes the bands first ARIA Singles chart entry, as debuting at No.70 is the song “She Only Loves Me When I’m There”. From his just released EP ‘Apocalypse Soon’, Major Lazer debuts at No.79 with “Aerosol Can” featuring the current No.1 singles artist Pharrell Williams as guest vocalist, and this becomes Major Lazer’s fourth chart entry. Sneaking in at No.97 is One Direction with the title track from their third album “Midnight Memories”, which becomes the boys’ fifteenth Top 100 entry.
