Ariana Grande made a surprise appearance at Coachella to perform her new single.
Ariana released No Tears Left to Cry on Friday, her first track since the tragic Manchester terror attack last year, and made her way to the music festival later that day in Indio, California, to wow the crowds.
Her manager Scooter Braun took to Twitter to begin teasing the surprise appearance.
“Hey @ArianaGrande … what are u are you doing tonight???” he posted, alongside a cactus emoji.
An hour later, he cryptically wrote: “On the way the Coachella stage! Let’s see who is there?????”
The 24-year-old also posted videos of herself with boyfriend Mac Miller, and her mom Joan, in a helicopter, seemingly headed to Coachella.
And the singer wowed the crowds when she appeared during Kygo’s set to perform her new single for the first time.
She later took to Instagram to post videos and snaps from backstage after the special performance. “baby’s first time performing No Tears tonight at Coachella thank you @kygomusic for having me!” she captioned one clip.
Wearing a purple crop top, with matching tulle skirt, Ariana donned thigh high grey boots for the Coachella gig, with her hair scraped back in her signature ponytail.
The singer alludes to the Manchester Arena bombing, which happened in May 2017 after her concert in the English city, in her new single, a powerful ballad which speaks about the pain she felt after the attack and how she was determined not to let the incident break her. The bombing claimed the lives of 22 victims.
Another reference to the terror attack can be seen in the accompanying music video, when a worker bee – which is the symbol of the city of Manchester – flies towards the camera.
