Brit boyband One Direction released their debut single in Australia today, and the kids are already going bananas.

While the X-Factor-spawned boyband already have 17.5 million hits on YouTube for the video to their debut single ‘What Makes You Beautiful’, it was only released here today.

So what happened? Well, there are already 15,000 Australian fans on their Facebook page, 5000 have signed a Hot Hits petition to bring them out here, two posts on the Sony Facebook page got 600 comments between them in less than 24 hours, and crazy fans have already set up a Facebook page, a tumblr and a YouTube channel to get them to Australia.

It’s pretty nuts. The five lads have a combined total of 24.5 million hits on their YouTube channel and Australia seems to just be getting started.

We chatted to Liam Payne from the group about the mayhem and their debut album recently. The interview will be up early next week.

In the meantime, bump up those numbers by watching the wholesome-as-milk clip to their ode to insecure girls – ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ – below.
