Rashad Owens, a 22-year man from the Austin suburb of Killeen, has been named as the driver of the car that plowed into a crowded Austin street killing two people in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Owens has been charged with two counts of capital murder and will now face the death penalty under Texan law.
Owens also injured a further 23 people. Two more people have been categorised as being in a still critical condition with life threatening injuries as of this morning. Three more are receiving surgery and their condition is listed as serious but not life threatening. 15 more people were hospitalised and have been released. Three more further people are still be cared for in an Austin hospital.
