The fourth studio album for Ariana Grande entitled “Sweetener” becomes her third successive No.1 album in Australia this week.

“Sweetener” becomes the 833rd No.1 Album in Australia (1965 to 2018) and the 684th for ARIA (1983 to 2018) plus the 475th album to debut in the No.1 slot and the eighth chart-topping album for the Republic Record Label and their first to succeed another Republic album in “Scorpion” by Drake. Plus all fifteen tracks from her new album are within the Top 100 singles chart this week, and overall this is her fourth Top 10 album here.

Ariana Grande took her second album “My Everything” (1 wk on 1st Sept, 2014, TW-75) and third set “Dangerous Woman” (1 wk on 30th May, 2016, TW-54) to the top placing her in an unusual set of chart feats by having three albums and three accumulated weeks at No.1, something which six other acts have done this decade such as Bring Me the Horizon, Hillsong United, The Amity Affliction (which could change next week as they just issued a new album on Friday), Bon Jovi, Bliss N’ Eso and most recently 5 Seconds of Summer, all seven acts are ranked equal 19th on the list for ‘Accumulated Weeks at No.1: Albums; 2010’s’.

This is the first time that the word “Sweetener” has been in the No.1 spot, with two other ‘Sweet’ chart-toppers in the past being “Dark Night, Sweet Light” by Hermitude (1 wk 25th, May 2015) and the first was “Sketches (for My Sweetheart the Drunk)” by Jeff Buckley (1 wk 17th May, 1998). This new No.1 album also becomes the 293rd by an American Act (solo, duo or group) and 126th by an Female Artist (local or overseas) and the third this year for a female after Kylie Minogue in April and Amy Shark in July.

There are three debuts within the Top 10 this week, all at the upper end of the chart as coming in at No.2 with their thirteenth studio album are Human Nature with “Romance of the Jukebox” with this being the four-piece vocal groups ninth successive covers album, this one containing tracks by The Troggs, Elvis Presley, The Monkees, The O’Jays, Simon & Garfunkel, two by The Beatles, The Bee Gees, Roy Orbison, and a duet with Dami Im on a Aretha Franklin cover. This is the bands eleventh Top 10 album and also their seventh Top 2 album.

Jimmy Barnes lands his 17th Top 3 album in Australia as “Working Class Boy-The Soundtracks” enters at No.3 this week, featuring songs and spoken segments from his recent book tour for the same titled book on his life, with the two disc set containing 36 tracks including the songs “Flame Trees”, “When the War is Over”, “Still Got a Long Way to Go” and covers of “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” with his daughter Mahalia and “Reflections of My Life” with his son David Campbell.
