The second Australian artist to score a No.1 song during 2018 is singer/songwriter Dean Lewis whose latest track “Be Alright” moves up one place to occupy the top spot on the ARIA Singles Chart this week.

“Be Alright” becomes the 1077th No.1 Song in Australia (1940 to 2018) and the 512th for ARIA (1983 to 2018), plus the 13th for the Island Record Label, and their first in almost eight years, as the last No.1 for that label was “Dynamite” by Taio Crus (30th Aug, 2010 for 4 weeks).

The last new Aussie act to hit No.1 here was Flume back in February of 2016 with “Never Be Like You” (he was the last solo Male Aussie act too) and overall Dean Lewis becomes the 40th Solo Australian Male artist to make it to the top of his own countries’ charts since the first in 1951 (Les Welch) and overall he is the 106th Aussie Performer (solo, duo or group) to have a chart-topping single on home soil.

The new No.1 is also the 165th song performed by an Aussie act, while the only other local act to hit the top this year was 5 Seconds of Summer with “Youngblood” ( 8 weeks from 28th of May, TW-3) and Dean has been sitting at the top of the digital sales chart for the past two weeks and remains their again this week (he is again #2 on the streaming chart). This is only the second song with ‘Alright’ in its title to hit No.1 in Australia, the other was back in March of 1994 for East 17 and “It’s Alright” (7 weeks), and this is the 21st ‘Be’ to land at the top here.

Last week the entire top six songs held their positions, and this week all of those six songs are again within the Top 6, just a few have swapped around, as “In My Feelings” (5th week at #1 in New Zealand, America and Canada) is down one spot to No.2 and also swapping are “Eastside” (new peak) by Benny Blanco with Halsey and Khalid and “Girls Like You” for Maroon 5 with Cardi B to No.4 and No.5 respectively. On hold are “Youngblood” for 5SOS at No.3 and for a third straight week at No.6 (6-6-6) is “No Brainer” for DJ Khaled with Justin Bieber, Quavo and Chance the Rapper which scores the only new certification within the Top 100 and is now Gold (●) in sales.

The first ever Top 10 single in Australia for Panic! at the Disco occurs this week as “High Hopes” halves its position from last week and jumps up seven spots to land at a new peak of No.7, with the bands previous highest charted single being their first entry here “I Write Sins not Tragedies” (HP-12, peaked August 2006), while right behind them at No.8 and also landing a new peak is Jonas Blue with “Rise”. The third and final Australian act within the Top 10 is Conrad Sewell who is down one spot to No.9 with “Healing Hands” and Travis Scott manages a second week within the Top 10 with last weeks debut “Sicko Mode” featuring Drake, down three places to No.10 this week.
