Ed Sheeran has molded himself into a “Shape of You” at No.1 for eleven weeks now, becoming the second longest chart-topping single for this decade.

‘Shape’ now sits one week away from the record holder for this decade in Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” which notched up twelve broken weeks between January and April in 2014. Ed had now notched up seventeen overall weeks at No.1, and is now the outright fourth act on the list of ‘Accumulated Weeks at No.1: Singles; 2010’s’, two weeks away from the 19 weeks racked up by LMFAO. And in the overall scheme of things (Acc.Wks@1: Singles; 1940-2017) he moves from equal 42nd to now equal 39th, having spent as many weeks at the top as Pink (from 7 #1’s), The Platter and Ke$ha (3 #1’s apiece).

‘Shape’ is also now one of four songs that have spent eleven weeks at the top of the Australian charts (since 1940), with Bryan Adams’ “(Everything I Do) I Do it for You” (1991), The Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” (1996) and the Wings double A-side “Mull of Kintyre” / “Girls’ School” (1978). The Ed Sheeran No.1 also notches up a new certification, achieving 4x▲Platinum in sales (although the chart I have says it is now 3xP), whilst also racking up 3x▲Platinum is “Castle on the Hill” for Ed, which is down one spot to No.3, and his third Top 10 entry this week also moves down a single spot, “Galway Girl”, to No.8. And with Ed occupying the top of both main charts this week with “Shape of You” and his album “÷ (Divide)”, its the third week in a row for both, with the last time that an album and single occupied the top for three (or more) weeks was from late February to early March, 2015 with “Fifty Shades of Grey” and the albums lead single “Love Me Like You Do” for Ellie Goulding (3 weeks in total).

Returning to its original No.2 entry position this week is The Chainsmokers and Coldplay with “Something Just Like This”, which after four weeks on the chart is now ▲Platinum in sales too. Zedd and Alessia Cara with “Stay” climbs two places to a new peak of No.4 and the song becomes the third Top 5 single for Zedd, and one place off his highest chart achievement (so far) on “Break Free” (July 2014), the Ariana Grande track. Whilst another producer and female singer are stable at No.5, Kygo and Selena Gomez with “It Ain’t Me”. Bruno Mars is up two places to a new peak of No.6 with “That’s What I Like”, and after two weeks at No.4 the Lorde track “Green Light” drops down three spots to No.7. Stable this week are Julia Michaels and her track “Issues” and “All Time Low” for Jon Bellion at No.9 and No.10 respectively.
