Bill Peach, the well-known and respected Australian TV journalist, has lost his battle with cancer at the age of 78.
Peach joined the ABC as a trainer in 1958. He moved to London in 1962 and worked for the BBC for three years before returning to Australia to work on Four Corners. In 1967 he was appointed host of the brand new current affairs show This Day Tonight where he stayed for eight years.
After leaving This Day Tonight is 1975, Bill hosted his travel series Peach’s Australia and wrote a few Ginger Meggs books in the series.
He was awarded the Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for his services to media and tourism in 1991.
Bill Peach died at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney this morning, August 27, 2013.
