The Australian Music Hall of Fame will have its home in Australia’s music capital Melbourne, Victoria.

The Daniel Andrews Labor Government of Victoria has pledged $10 million towards the project expected to open in November 2017.

Victoria’s State Creative Industries Minister Martin Foley told the Herald-Sun, “It’s fantastic recognition of our rich music heritage, but also confirms us as the live music creative hotbed of the country,” he said.

“We know there’s a fantastic appetite in Melbourne both from Melburnians and our many visitors so that we know this will be absolutely smashing as an attraction.”

The Australian Hall of Fame will be housed at the Arts Centre in St Kilda Road. The permanent exhibition will be free for the public.

A long line of international acts have come from Melbourne including Nick Cave, Kylie Minogue, Little River Band, Men At Work, John Farnham, The Seekers, Olivia Newton-John, Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gotye, Hunters & Collectors, Jet, Missy Higgins, The Temper Trap, Mondo Rock, Tina Arena, Jason Donovan and The Living End.

The city is where Countdown, Rockwiz, Spicks and Specks and Noise11.com are from. Major promoters Live Nation, Frontier Touring and Paul Dainty are all Melbourne based.

Melbourne has more music venues per capita than Austin, Texas.
