Cameron Mackintosh’s new production of Les Misérables has announced details of the latest production and of its stars that includes Simon Gleeson as Jean Valjean.
With a new stage and setting inspired by the paintings of Victor Hugo, the show promises to continue the success of previous productions of Les Mis’.

Joining the Helpmann Award nominated Gleeson (Mamma Mia!, Love Never Dies) in the principal cast will be Hayden Tee as Javert, Patrice Tipoki as Fantine, Lara Mulcahy and Trevor Ashley as Madame and Monsieur Thénardier, Kerrie Anne Greenland as Eponine, Emily Landgridge as Cosette, Chris Durling as Enjolras and Euan Doidge as Marius.
The child roles of Little Cosette, Young Eponine and Gavroche will be announced early next year and will join the twenty-four members of the ensemble that have already been announced.
At today’s launch of the event, the principal cast members and the ensemble played a medley of songs from the production to rousing applause and joined by the show’s Grammy winning composer, Claude-Michel Schönberg.
Schönberg was also the co-writer of the book the latest film and stage show are based on.
Victorian Premier Denis Napthine was on hand to express the importance of productions such as Les Mis’ to Victoria’s economy stating, “major theatre productions like Les Misérables generate significant economic benefits for Victoria, attracting thousands of visitors from interstate and overseas.”
This isn’t the first time Sir Cameron Mackintosh has brought Les Mis’ to Australia, with his first time debuting back in 1987. Since then, Mackintosh has been involved in the three longest-running musicals of all time (Les Mis, The Phantom of the Opera and Cats), Mary Poppins and his latest show, Miss Saigon.
The production arrives in Australia in June 2014 and will be held at Melbourne’s Her Majesty’s Theatre.
