Australian Singles: Mariah Carey Had Most Streamed Christmas Song

Mariah Carey’s perennial Christmas song ‘All I Want For Christmas’ was the most streamed Christmas song in Australia for the past week.

Mariah says she wrote the 1994 Christmas classic in just 15 minutes. She suggests the songs on-going popularity is because it is so simple.

Mariah didn’t even want to record her ‘Merry Christmas’ album. She thought Christmas albums were “for old people” and she didn’t want to “turn into Connie Francis’.

The backing music for the song is also 100% computerized. There is no actual band playing on the track. C0-writer Walter Afanasieff arranged all of the music on his computer.

Mariah’s ‘All I Want For Christmas’ was the ninth most streamed song in Australia for the past week and most popular Christmas song.

Wham’s ‘Last Christmas’, at no 28 was the second most popular Christmas song of the week. Michael Buble’s ‘Its Beginning To Look At Lot Like Christmas’ was the third most streamed Christmas song.
