Melbourne singer-songwriter Angie McMahon has been awarded the Grulke Prize for Developing Non-U.S. Act at SXSW in Austin, Texas.
The Grulke Prize is named in honour of former SXSW Creative Director Brent Grulke who passed away on 13 August, 2012.
There are three Grulke Prizes awarded at SXSW. The Developing U.S. Act went to Philadelphia’s Pink Sweat$. The award for Career Act went to New Zealand’s The Chills.
Previous Grulke Award Prize Winners include Leon Bridges, Courtney Barnett, Haim, Chvrches, Jade Bird, Anderson .Paak & The Free Nationals, Iggy Pop, Todd Rundgren, Spoon and The Flaming Lips.
The Grulke Prize is sourced from a pool of music critics, industry professionals, and SXSW staff, many of whom knew and worked with Brent over the years.
