Despite having one of the biggest selling albums of all-time the next Backstreet Boys album will be released independently.
‘In A World Like This’, the eighth studio album for Backstreet Boys, will be released through on the Cooking Vinyl label.
Cooking Vinyl is a UK independent label, known for releases by Billy Bragg, Ron Sexsmith, Gary Numan and Australia’s Paul Kelly.
Backstreet Boys past release ‘Backstreet Boys’ was the 27th best selling album of all time in the USA and their ‘Millennium’ album is America’s 36th best seller ever.
Backstreet Boy Brian Littrell describes their newfound independent status as “a natural evolution”. “It’s a natural evolution,” he said in a statement. “We’re not trying to be something that we’re not. The subject matter is a little different. We have the freedom to do whatever we want now, and it’s an invigorating feeling. The music is just Backstreet Boys.”
The album also marks the return of Kevin Richardson who left the band in 2006 and did not appear on their last album ‘This Is Us’ (2009). “Like always, there’s a little bit of everything,” he says. “There’s some R&B. There’s some straight-up pop. There’s some rock. At the end of the day, we’re singers. We sing with emotion, soul, and passion. I hope people feel that. We just aimed to make a versatile record.”
‘In A World Like This’ will be released digitally on August 2 and physically on August 9.
