Michael Spiby of The Badloves will host a songwriting seminar his Melbourne on Sunday.
Beyond Songwriting 101: The Dark Art’ is designed as a “kickstart to the songwriters process”.
According to Spiby, “Songwriting is all too often reduced to a ‘Craft’ at the hands of industry advisors and educators with little more than a toolkit of techniques and structural shortcuts based on what’s been before. Actually, all quite useful, to a point.
“If you suspect there’s life beyond the ‘sausage factory’ mentality, that maybe the ‘hit’ chord progressions, hook-lines and genre trends aren’t the only way to go, you’re right!”
Michael Spiby has spent 35 years as a singer, songwriter, performer and producer. In recent years he was a songwriting teacher at the Conservatorium of Music at the University of Tasmania.
