Melbourne’s iconic Bakehouse Studios will open its doors to the public for the first time ever next Saturday as part of the Leaps and Bounds Festival.

Bakehouse Studios is the home of about 400 musicians every week who for the past 23 years have used the space to rehearse and record. The building has been the temporary home of Elvis Costello, Ed Sheeran, Dave Stewart and Paul Kelly over the years as well as hundreds of local acts who come to the building to create, write, rehearse for live shows, make videos and shoot videos and documentaries.
During open day music fans will experience art installations made of cake icing from the darlings of NGV’s Melbourne Now exhibition, the Hotham Street Ladies; taxidermy from vegan artist Julia deVille; a metal room by jeweller Cass Partington; musical history room from Bruce Milne; a bespoke ‘backstage’ by design duo Brustman+ Boyde; a homage to pulp fiction by screen printer Stewart Russell; and a glam rock disaster by Garrett and Will Huxley.
Studio tours and live music will start from 11am Saturday and run throughout the afternoon.
