Barbra Streisand’s next project will return her to the director’s chair.
The Academy Award-winning actress and feature film finance firm Aldamisa International have finally decided to use this feature as a directorial vehicle for the star after months of brainstorming, according to Deadline.
Skinny and Cat is based on a true-life love story between trailblazing American photographer Margaret Bourke-White and novelist Erskine Caldwell. The pair were married in 1939 but ended their tumultuous union in 1942.
They were also both innovators for their time. Photojournalist Margaret was the first female photographer to be appointed as staff for Life magazine in 1936 and Erskine received acclaim and censure for his riveting novels Tobacco Road and God’s Little Acre about the racist American South.
Aldamisa will handle worldwide sales for Skinny and Cat and Kilburn Media will finance the feature.
Nadine de Barros, Aldamisa’s president of international sales and acquisitions, will serve as producer.
This will be the fourth movie under Barbra Streisand’s direction. She has also helmed 1983’s Yentl, 1991’s Prince of Tides and 1996’s The Mirror Has Two Faces. All three films received a dozen Academy Award nominations between them.
Skinny and Cat is due to begin shooting this year and is slated for a 2014 release.
Cate Blanchett and Colin Firth have both been attached to the project.
