When Barbra Streisand started to work on her ‘Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway’ she said the first person she thought of singing with was Australia’s Hugh Jackman.
Hugh Jackman and Barbra Streisand sing ‘Any Moment Now’ on Encore’. The song by Marvin Hamlisch is from an unproduced version of ‘Smile’.
Hugh could not believe he was asked by Barbra to contribute to the album. “When I got the email about it I literally stared at my phone. My wife, who is the biggest Barbra Streisand fan, thought something was wrong. I said ‘read this’ and she read it and she screamed,” Hugh said. “I was like ‘I don’t know how on earth this has happened”.
‘Singing is really about communicating and when I listen to Hugh’s voice I hear a truth in his performance that I find very touching,” Barbra said.
Hugh Jackman is the first Australian born performer to appear on a Streisand album, although her Aussie connections go back to English born ex-pat Australian Barry Gibb and their albums ‘Guilty’ and ‘Guilty Pleasures’.
‘Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway’ will be released on 26 August 2016.
